    PRE-PLANNING      Pre-planning your funeral and burial is considered a wise move.  
Pre-planning is much easier when you are not burdened with the stress of a recent death of a loved one.  The opportunity to make objective decisions today and setting aside funds well in advance of your funeral service and burial is a very comforting feeling.  From a financial standpoint, the cost of the funeral and choice of a burial site will never be cheaper.  Contact our business office for assistance when pre-planning your burial. 

GLOSSARY OF COMMONLY USED CEMETERY TERMS 

Columbarium-a structure consisting of burial vaults or niches for urns containing cremated remains.

 Committal Service-the ceremony at the gravesite following a funeral ceremony, or a gathering in a church or chapel.

 Cremation-the reduction of human remains to bone fragment and ashes through intense heat, flame and evaporation.  Cremated remains are usually placed in urns.

 Crypt-an internment space in a mausoleum, for the memorialization and permanent placement of a casket.

 Ground Burial-traditional ground burial offers a wide range of choices to meet personal preferences.  It involves the deceased being buried in a casket or urn under ground.

 Internment-the placing of remains into the final resting place, such as the ground, tomb, crypt, or niche.

 Inurnment-the placing of an urn containing cremated remains into a columbarium, niche,  tomb, or ground space.

 Mausoleum-a public or private building specially designed to receive entombments in crypts or niches.

 Niche-a compartment or cubicle for the memorialization and permanent placement of cremated remains.

 Burial Vault-any container which is designed for placement in the grave surrounding the casket.

 Opening and Closing fee- a fee usually associated with the opening and 
closing of a grave.

 Perpetual Care-a stipulated amount from the sale of each grave, which is set aside for the perpetual care of the cemetery.  Wisconsin law dictates that these funds be deposited in an irrevocable trust fund.

 Urn- a container made from a variety of materials into which the cremated remains are place.  Urns are often placed in cemetery niches.
